Are you Board-Ready?

"Potential directors should consider the following in determining whether they are realistically ready to assume director responsibilities.  Korn/Ferry International experience has shown the following attributes are the most commonly sought after by the Governance Committees of Boards when recruiting for new directors:

  • C-Suite executive experience, EVP or SVP Divisional P&L level responsibilities. Public sector equivalent at Deputy Minister level
  • Previous experience serving on not for profit or public agency boards
  • Demonstrated understanding and exposure to good corporate governance practices
  • Financial literacy
  • Deep functional experience is desirable: e.g. finance, operations, marketing, legal, or technology
  • Capacity to serve – commitment of full attendance at board meetings including committee participation
  • Strong communication skills
  • International experience an asset
