FIRST-EVER CORPORATE BOARD DIVERSITY AWARD PRESENTED TO TD BANK GROUP
On May 9, we presented the first-ever Corporate Board Diversity Award to TD Bank Group. Council Founder Pamela Jeffery presented the Award to Past Board Chairman and current Director John Thompson.
We are proud to have partnered with Council Founding Member, The Maytree Foundation, in the 2010 Diversity in Governance Celebration. The Award recognizes an FP500 organization that has demonstrated a strong commitment to board diversity.
Five of TD Bank Group’s 15 independent directors are women and one is from a visible minority group. At 33% TD is above their peer financial institution average of 26% for representation of women in the slate of independent directors nominated in 2011. In addition, four of the five directors recruited in the past five years are from diverse groups-three are female and one is from a visible minority group. The Bank’s corporate governance guidelines directs the Board to promote diversity on the Board by age, geography, skills and experience as well as through the advancement of women, members of visible minority groups and people with disabilities.
We also made special mention of Torstar Corporation for their demonstrated strong commitment to board diversity. Thank you to Council Founding Member Cisco Canada for hosting this year’s event.
